The brake assembly converts the electrical signal from the trailer's brake controller into mechanical braking force:

1. Brake controller activation – When the tow vehicle's brake pedal is pressed, the controller sends power to the trailer brakes.
2. Electromagnet engagement – The brake magnet contacts the inside face of the rotating brake drum.
3. Actuating arm movement – The magnet's movement pulls the actuating lever.
4. Brake shoe expansion – The lever forces the brake shoes outward against the inside of the drum.
5. Friction creates braking – The friction between the brake linings and drum slows the wheel until the trailer decelerates or stops.
