Function

The brake assembly performs the following functions:

• Slows and stops the trailer when the tow vehicle's brake controller sends electrical current to the brake magnets.
• Converts electrical energy into braking force by using an electromagnet that attracts to the rotating brake drum.
• Expands the brake shoes against the inside of the drum, creating friction that slows the wheel.
• Automatically adjusts (if self-adjusting) or allows manual adjustment to maintain proper braking performance as the brake shoes wear.
